As adults go back to college, there may be some discomfort associated with the way they should relate to younger students. Some adults may have children the same age as the people they are now calling their peers. If you are feeling a generation gap while attending classes, remember that you are all sharing some very important experiences. Whether there is an age difference between you and your fellow students or not, one thing to remember is that you are all students together. Your younger classmates will be asked to do the same work as you with the same deadlines. They will be able to empathize with all of your frustrations because they are feeling exactly the same way.

Try not to be a snob simply because you are older. You are not their parent so have no responsibility to tell them what they should and should not be doing. In fact, this is a chance to see how youth is doing in current society without the added burden or role of parenthood weighing you down. Each of your younger classmates is an individual. There are more of them than there are of you but that doesn’t mean they are simply a demographic herd. Enjoy talking to them and getting to know them.

You may not feel like going out to the favorite college pubs with them but during your time working together in study groups or on class projects, ask them questions as if you are interested in who they are. They may surprise you with their interesting life stories. Another way younger students will definitely surprise you is in how smart they are. Young people today were raised from the cradle on the internet and they are extremely savvy about their world.

They are also in touch with technology and this can be a help to you if you’re not on top of the latest developments. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions if you are having a computer problem because likely they can tell you exactly what the issue is and how to fix it. Something that an adult student adds to the composition of any classroom is cultural education that comes with having lived longer. Your younger classmates won’t have first hand knowledge of the world any farther back than twenty or so years ago.

This is where you may have information that will help fill in the gaps for them. Don’t be afraid to give them hints about your age and withhold the vast amount of knowledge you have to share. You may want to exercise tact as you interact with your younger students. They could have many reactions to a real grownup being a classmate that range from thinking of you as an alien to considering you quaint.

There’s no reason to get defensive. After all, if they’ve never considered going to college with their parents, they may find the idea rather strange. You will probably find out that you are going to enjoy your younger classmates and will form some very rewarding relationships with them. As you go through your college experience and see these students semester after semester, you will begin to notice that their presence is what makes you feel at home. Remember that you are all adults, some younger, some older, but all equally involved with your education.

In fact, people who were not able to finish their college courses due to some unavoidable circumstances can now get their college degree without having to resign or give up their current job. Distance learning is a new way of acquiring college and even doctorate degrees without having to attend formal schooling. People can get through the subjects needed to get the degree that they want just by getting brochures and learning materials through mail or through electronic methods. Fully completing a distance learning program, however, is not that easy and requires the same dogged determination and persistence, as with any schooling program. Therefore, for people who would like to earn their degree through distance learning easily and without too much hassle, here are some tips to guide you through:

1. Decide And Assess Yourself

- Distance learning is not for everyone who wishes to avail of its services
- In many cases, it can provide flexibility and ease of obtaining the much-needed degree
- But for some, it could mean boring methods and procedures and wearisome learning
- Ideal for those who can study independently in a self-directed manner
- Good for those who do not like interacting with a professor

2. Check Your Mailbox Daily, Electronic Or Otherwise

Distance learning is a continuous learning process. This means that the learning materials that you will need and your assignments or projects will be sent through mails, electronically or through snail mail. So it is best if you always check your mailbox every single day or even multiple times per day. There may be instances where missing a single day of checking your mailbox could mean tons of missed projects or work.

3. Flexibility Should Never Be Equaled With Laxness

Getting flexible schedule does not mean that you have to be lax on your studies. Being flexible on your class schedule would mean that it is up to you how or when you will study. Therefore, in order to succeed and finish your degree as soon as possible, it is best that you organize your schedule, those that concern your work, your family (if any), and your class schedule. It is just a matter of time management. Keep in mind that it is best if you will always set a regular time for your study. In this way, you will never have to worry about getting all things mixed up.

4. Find A Quiet Place To Study

Because you will be entirely on your own when getting a degree through distance learning, it is best that you find a quiet place to do your homework or review your lessons. In this way, you will be able to ponder on things that needed more attention without having to worry about any distractions.

5. Reading Is Comprehension, Not Memorizing

When you read, it would be better to understand the text and subject matter thoroughly instead of memorizing them. In distance learning, memorization is a useless technique. What matters most in distance learning is that you understand the subject matter thoroughly and that you can easily grasp the meaning of the text given to you.

6. Improve Your Communication Skills

There are people who are having more difficulty in talking to other people through the microphone or the conference call than speaking in public. They contend that not seeing the other person is more difficult to deal with than talking to them face to face. These people insist that they could not see whether the other person is satisfied with the answers or not. In distance learning, corrections can be made for people who are having difficulty regarding this matter. Just keep in mind to pay attention to the instructions given and to listen attentively. Try to incorporate some, if not all, of these tips and you will surely finish your degree in a breeze. Just remember that distance learning is not an easy alternative of studying or getting a degree. It is just an option for those who do not have time to go to formal school.

Be Uplifting. Even if your story goes through some dark periods of your life, you want your audience to feel better at the end of it. Everyone loves a happy ending. Everyone wants to feel hope. People love stories about the underdog fighting back and winning.

Speaker Education Bonus Tip: Your story should bring about an emotional response because all buying decisions are based in emotion. When doing speaker education, I always tell my story. I give you my background: I’m a successful athlete, I am very active. Then I have a huge setback, don’t I? I have to have back surgery. I can no longer be a professional athlete. I have had that door shut to me.

Speaker Education Note: Am I manipulating your emotions? Not at all! If I was lying about that, or if I knew at the time I was going to be okay so I wasn’t very affected by it, then yes, I would be manipulating your emotions. That would be wrong and it wouldn’t ring true.

I am eliciting your empathy and causing you to identify with me. I want you to see yourself in my story. Because when I go on to tell you how my life changed for the better, I want you to see your life changing for the better. I want you to take that journey with me.

When you get your audience to become emotionally involved with your story, you get them believing in you and believing in themselves. Speaker education teaches you how to make the audience feel fantastic!

I’ve said this before, but this is a speaker education key: All buying decisions are based in emotion. After I came out of back surgery I knew I had to do something. I knew I wanted to work on foreclosures. I wanted a system that would help me do just that. I used this system (and I point to my product at that point in the story) and I did my first real estate deal and made forty grand. You are identifying with me, you are involved emotionally, and when your emotions are in that charged state, I am going to create an anchor to my product at that moment. You put the anchors into your talk at the moments when your audience is most emotionally charged.

As soon as you create the emotion, point to either yourself, your product or the table at the back of the room. You are anchoring your product or yourself to that emotional state. You have placed that anchor in their subconscious. A lot of people tell stories, but they don’t anchor the product down. Anchor your product down. Then move into what changes happened in your life and how your product is going to help them.

Speaker Education Bonus Tip: Give a Call to Action.

Your story tells the audience what you did to change your situation. You are planting the seeds for them to take action when the time comes. By showing the audience that your success is a direct result of taking action, you are subconsciously telling them that they should take action, too.

You need to know that most post graduate degrees have some conditions that should be fulfilled prior to completion of the program.

Requirements

Post graduate degree conditions are varied and depend chiefly on the tertiary college chosen or the state of origin.

Thus in Australia, participants are estimated to excel in various modules performed. Students are supposed to complete a certain set of modules in each year; these range from 8 to 12 yearly depending upon the period of the program. Though, the latter applies to Masters Degrees. PhD holders have more strict requirements, they are never regarded as candidates for the latter studies until they complete the first year. Most PhD programs in the country are research based thus modules do not take much precedence here.

In the United States of America, science based learners have to participate in assessments that will determine the level of their knowledge before taking on post graduate programs. Masters level learners will be expected to conduct research culminating in a thesis. Alternatively, a learner can substitute this with real life experience. Doctorate learners in the United States of America are expected to take qualifying examinations in the third and second years. On passing these, one should take part in research which ends in a thesis.

In Canada, conditions are similar to those in the us. First, masters students can choose to do either research or practical work. Some knowledge of a foreign language is needed. The same is applicable to PhD holders who are needed to take part in a research program or dissertation and do specialized exams.

Here’s a recap

1.Australia-complete modules and conduct research

2.Canada- do examinations, master a foreign language and conduct research

3.Us – sit for examinations and/or research

As the education sector comes to terms with increasing technological intrusion and changing reality of learning modes, online learning is fast catching up as a preferred medium for kids ‘education. As per the statistics in 2011, 40 states in USA have either virtual schools or some form of state-led online initiative. The technological influx has made education boundary less. A student sitting in Hong Kong can take classes in California without any glitch since free worksheets, education articles and every other imaginable information regarding any subject is available online. The growing fame of online learning in kids’ education is indicated in the online enrollments stats of 2011, which state that nearly 2, 50,000 students enrolled full-time in online schools in 2010-2011.

The easy availability of learning information such as free worksheets, education articles, easy to download presentations, etc has made online learning a hit among students as well as professionals. Missed course credits can be recovered via online learning but how to be a top scorer in a virtual classroom requires a little bit of planning and preparation. Here are some tips to help e-learning students be better in their learning-

Create a regular learning schedule- Online classrooms provides a private space of learning and maximum advantage can be taken of this by having a routine study plan. Have a calendar planner to help you keep track of test and assignment submission dates. Ensure that you take a look at the planner once each day so that your dates and study plan do not skip from your mind. Try and have a dedicated study place with everything you need so that your concentration is at fullest when you are studying. Having a specific study place brings in the much-needed peace for learning and accords importance to what you are doing.

Be interactive and engaged- When studying online it is important to be at your interactive best. Participate in conversations and group discussions and engage others as well by sharing, exchanging your ideas, perspectives and comments. Your information and learning source is not restricted to your instructor only. Besides all the free worksheets and education articles, it is interaction with your colleagues and peers that helps you learn even more.
Know the online learning management system-Before taking up the course online, make yourself fully aware about online learning ways. This means read the “how to manuals” of working on online learning management software and/or tools.
Conferencing your way through learning- Online learning is a break from the traditional and conventional way of studying. Contrary to the dominant physical presence of teachers and classmates, online learning entails just you and your machine. This can leave you feeling a bit isolated which can harm your studying, learning capacity. So to avoid feeling cut-off, participating in online conferences related to your course is a great way to learn and meet other students. It helps you in connecting with different experts of course subjects as well as with students from the same course.

If you have a problem, you have to talk about it- One great thing about the online format of learning is how it puts people socially at ease and opens them up. Being online, you can and should put forth your problem without any hesitation. If there is something that you are unable to grasp, then be vocal about it. Post your problem on the discussion forum, email it to your instructor and the responses will start pouring in instantly.
Following these tips eases your climb to the success hill and helps you learn better in the process. To get more tips and more knowledge about e-learning check out sites such as Educationtiger.com.
